Welcome to WDCohen.com

As a working research biologist for the past 45 years, I have enjoyed the excitement of experimentation and the discovery of new knowledge. However, the publication of such scientific results is done in a formal manner that does not allow the imagination to run wild. This is necessary for good science, but is also quite confining. There were numerous occasions when the urge arose to wing it and do a bit of creative writing or drawing independent of science. And so, over the course of many years, I wrote a number of poems and illustrated cartoons simply for personal enjoyment, and let them accumulate in a big, old file cabinet. Then, upon retirement from academia, I decided that some of these writings and drawings might provide enjoyment to others. So here, from my files' depths, are some of my favorites.

This Web site is dedicated to my wife, Marion, my daughter, Sarah, and son, David, whose love makes this and all things possible. In addition, I will be particularly gratified to have this site remain online for a sufficient length of time to allow potential future grandchildren to see some of the whimsies and oddities emerging from their grandfather's mind.
